When to Visit Ubud
The best time to visit Ubud is during the dry season, from April to October. The days are usually warm and sunny, perfect for white water rafting and waterfall hopping. If you prefer fewer crowds, lush green scenery, and more affordable rates, consider visiting during the rainy season (November to March). But make sure you pack a rain jacket and water shoes.
How to Get to Ubud
Fly into Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar, Bali. From there, Ubud is about a 1.5-hour drive. You can pre-book an airport transfer, grab a taxi, or hire a private driver. Trust me, having a driver makes things easier and often costs less than you think! Be careful of aggressive taxi drivers at the airport and make sure you have enough cash just in case.
How to Get Around Ubud
Once you’re in Ubud, getting around is pretty simple. Here are your options:
- Hire a scooter if you’re comfortable driving in Bali traffic.
- Book a private driver for day trips and tours (super affordable for groups!).
- Grab a Gojek or Grab ride (Bali’s version of Uber).
- Many attractions in central Ubud are walkable, so bring comfy shoes.
Where to Eat in Ubud
I’ve never been in a place with so many unique food options. In Ubud you’ll find tons of local Balinese food, top of the line vegan dishes, and international options. Here are a few of my favorite restayurants.
🌱 Seeds Eatery – If you’re vegan (or just love fresh, plant-based food), this place is a must visit. I loved their ramen and passionfruit drink.
🍝 Mamma Mia – Sometimes we like to switch it up. Mamma Mia is great for fufilling that Italian food craving that randomly hits you. This cozy spot makes for a great down to earth date night. THeir lights are warm and service is fast. Choose from wood-fired pizza and homemade pasta.
Where to Stay in Ubud
Anumana Ubud

Anumana Ubud is a boutique hotel, only a five minut walk from the Monkey Forest. The interior is filled with vintage Balinese furniture and art and the outdoor pool is super clean and photogenic. Their breakfast options are great and service is top-tier.
Zen Hideaway

Staying at Zen Hideaway was easily one of the best decisions I made in Ubud. The views and aestheic are unmatched. Photos can’t do it justice. Plus, there is a Bali swing on site that overlooks a gorgeous dam and lush rainforest. It’s literally an open air jungle treehouse, the epitome of a trip to Bali. The shower is outdoors so doing something as simple as bathing will make you feel like you’re in a fairytale.
3-Day Ubud Itinerary

Day 1: Explore Ubud’s Icons
- Monkey Forest Sanctuary – Start your day with a visit to Ubud’s famous Monkey Forest. Walk under towering banyan trees while playful monkeys swing above you. Hold on to your belongings—they’re sneaky!
- Flying Dress Photo Shoot + Bird’s Nest – Capture those iconic “flying dress” shots! Book a photo session with a dress rental and swing over the jungle or pose in a giant bird’s nest for dreamy Bali content.
- Ubud Art Market & Palace – Wander through the market for souvenirs and handicrafts. The Ubud Palace across the street is worth a quick visit, too.
- Dinner at Seeds Eatery – After a full day, enjoy a nourishing vegan meal under twinkling lights.
Day 2: White Water Rafting and Rice Paddies

- White Water Rafting on the Ayung River – Get your adrenaline pumping with a morning rafting trip. Glide through lush jungle gorges, past waterfalls, and ancient carvings.
- Tegallalang Rice Terraces – Visit the famous rice terraces in the afternoon. Walk along the scenic paths or hop on one of the Bali swings. Don’t forget to stop at a café with a view.
- Dinner at Mamma Mia – End the day with comforting Italian food and a glass of wine.
Day 3: Temples & Waterfalls

- Tirta Empul Temple – Start your morning with a visit to this sacred water temple. Take part in a traditional purification ritual in the holy spring pools.
- Tibumana Waterfall – Head to this serene, lesser-known waterfall. It’s a short hike down and perfect for a refreshing swim. Be careful, this location is a bit remote and you most likely won’t be able to call a Grab or Gojek here. There are taxi drivers on site but they are much more expensive than what Gojek may say. Since cell phone service most likely won’t work here, plan ahead.
- Tegenungan Waterfall – Wrap up your waterfall tour with this powerful cascade. It’s one of the more popular spots, but worth seeing!
