Looking for halal food in Cape Town? Cape Town is one of the world’s most popular halal-friendly destinations. Due to its various ethnicities, the food options are endless.

From traditional Cape Malay dishes like Bobotie to Middle Eastern flavors, it’s extremely easy to eat Halal in Cape Town. There’s no need to stick to seafood; you have options! So say bismillah and dig in!

1. Bo Kaap Kombui: Halal Cape Malay Dishes

Bo Kaap Kombuis is located in the colorful Bo-Kaap neighborhood. It’s well known for its authentic Cape Malay dishes and buffet. Its best selling point is its fantastic view of Table Mountain. It can get busy, so try to book a table in advance.

I recommend ordering a tasting platter to explore a bit of everything. They usually include 2-3 proteins, rice, and other side orders. Along with halal options, this restaurant also serves a good amount of vegetarian dishes

2. Biesmiellah

Biesmiellah is also located in Bo-Kaap, but it’s a bit more casual than Bo Kaap Kombui. It’s a family-run restaurant serving halal Cape Malay and Indian dishes since 1982. I recommend trying the daltjie, samosas, and the crayfish curry.

Their kids’ menu was surprisingly big and came with fries. But my favorite thing about this place was the desserts! Koeksisters is a quintessential South African dessert that you’ll be talking about for weeks.

3. Eastern Food Bazaar: 10+ Halal Restaurants in Cape Town in One Spot

Eastern Food Bazaar is perfect for the adventurous foodie. It’s a food court filled with Indian, Middle Eastern, and even Turkish food. There are a few Chinese options but it didn’t taste very authentic to me. I recommend the hakka noodles or the mango lassi.

It’s a very affordable option, making it great for backpackers or those hoping to save a few bucks. Unfortunately, the area isn’t super safe, so be careful outside.

4. The Butcher’s Wife: For Halal Meat Lovers

Personally, I love the name of this place, and it definitely lives up to its name. Located in Durbanville, The Butcher’s Wife is a halal steakhouse known for its premium meat cuts, pot pies, and burgers. If you have any vegans in your party, they’ll be stuck with fries and salad as there are no real plan-based options (read here for vegan restaurants in Cape Town).

With a focus on quality and flavor, this restaurant is perfect for meat lovers seeking a high-end halal dining experience. It’s also within walking distance of Masjid Us—Salaam.

5. Sabria’s Restaurant

Sabria’s Restaurant has everything! There’s something for everyone: pasta, steak, burgers, curry, seafood. They also have at least four full vegetarian options. Sabria’s really values Jummah so they close after 2 on Friday.

6. Cozy Corner

Cozy Corner was started in 1973, right in the middle of fight against apartheid. It’s known for is its halal fast food. I recommend the calamari and fries. Cozy Corner is located right next door to Sabria’s.

7. Saray at the Waterfront: Romantic Halal Restaurant

Saray is one of the only halal dining spots at V&A Waterfront. Due to its location, it’s perfect for a romantic dinner. Their Turkish menu includes lamb shank, kofta, and pide (Turkish pizza). For dessert, have the baklava or knife and then wash it down with Turkish coffee.

  • Address: Shop 153, Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, 8001

The Syrian Kitchen is truly a hidden gem, but it’s a bit away from the city. It offers authentic Middle Eastern cuisine like Kebab Halabi, shawarma, Labneh, and honey Mana’aoshe. Shish Tawook is another popular dish here.

The Syrian Kitchen also has hookah.
