Scuba Dive with Manta Rays in Nusa Penida

One of Nusa Penida’s most exhilarating experiences is scuba diving or snorkeling with manta rays. Manta Bay is known for its rich marine life and, of course, its famous manta rays that can grow up to 7 meters wide. Watching these gentle giants glide gracefully through the water will send chills through your body. I recommend diving with the manta rays, over snorkeling but its up to your preference. The snorkeling tours seemed a bit crowded and is just not the best way to see manta rays. Join a scuba diving tour, and prepare to get up close with these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. Make sure you check out the reviews, all diving companies are not created equal.

When is the Best Time to See Manta Rays in Nusa Penida?

The best time to see manta rays in Nusa Penida is from May to October, during the dry season. At that time, ocean visibility is much higher than wet season. Manta Bay and Manta Point, the island’s popular spots for manta rays, offer calm waters and clear conditions for snorkeling and diving. It’s best to visit early in the morning for the best chance of spotting these majestic creatures.

Best Dive Shops in Nusa Penida

The following are 5 Star PADI shops in Nusa Penida. I do not recommend diving with any shop without an online presence.

  • Nusa Penida Dive center
  •  Two Fish Divers
  • Purple Dive

Visit the Legendary Tree House (Rumah Pohon)

I woke up at around 3 am in order to have the Instagram-famous Nusa Penida Tree House all to myself. Other than all the stairs, it was a great decision! The Tree House is located on a cliff, with gorgeous views of Atuh Beach and Diamond Beach. Some brave souls choose to stay overnight in this treehouse, but I do not recommend doing that. Inside, there is only a cot and zero protection from bugs, animals, and nature. Bathrooms are shared and located outside the treehouse. Plus, if you get hungry, you’re a long way from food once it gets dark. But the photos! 10/10. You do have to pay for a photo and can pay extra for someone to take it for you.

When is the Best Time to Visit the Tree House?

The best time to visit the Tree House in Nusa Penida is early in the morning at sunrise. Day trippers to Nusa Penida arrive around 8 am/9 am and that is when the line starts to get long. Going around sunset makes for a great photo but can also be a bit busy.

Explore Diamond Beach and Angel’s Billabong

Diamond Beach is a true gem of Nusa Penida, with pristine white sand, turquoise waters, and towering cliffs. A staircase carved into the cliffside allows adventurous visitors to make their way down to the shore, where you can relax, swim, or take photos against the stunning backdrop. While the water can be rough, the sheer beauty of Diamond Beach makes the trek worthwhile.

Angel’s Billabong

Angel’s Billabong is a crystal-clear tide pool nestled between natural rock formations. When the tide is low, this unique pool becomes a mesmerizing, natural infinity pool with amazing views. However, please be mindful of the tides and avoid entering when waves are high, as the area can become dangerous. A few tourists were recently killed when standing too close the cliff when a wave swept them away. It’s best to take photos from a distance, your photo will look better and its much safer.

Kelingking Beach: The Iconic T-Rex Cliff

Kelingking Beach, famous for its T-Rex-shaped cliff, is one of Nusa Penida’s most iconic landmarks. The viewpoint offers breathtaking panoramic views, and for the adventurous, there’s a steep trail leading down to the beach below. I skipped that part as it didn’t look worth the hike. The way down is not very well paved. For more info, read here.

Broken Beach – Pasih Uug

Broken Beach, also known as Pasih Uug, is a unique natural formation where a large arch frames a picturesque cove. The waves crashing through the arch create a stunning display, while the blue-green waters are incredibly clear. Though swimming isn’t possible here, it’s an ideal spot for photos and relaxation.

Guyangan Waterfall

For those looking for a thrilling experience, a visit to Guyangan Waterfall is an absolute must. Getting there requires descending steep stairs attached to the cliffside, but the reward is a secluded, scenic pool with fresh water cascading from the hills above. This location combines adventure and natural beauty, making it one of the island’s best-kept secrets.

Bukit Teletubbies Hill

Named for its resemblance to the fictional landscape of the children’s show Teletubbies, Teletubbies Hill features gently rolling, vibrant green hills that stretch as far as the eye can see. This area offers a serene escape, perfect for a peaceful stroll or an outdoor picnic with panoramic views over the island.

Best Restaurants for Dining in Nusa Penida

Nusa Penida’s restaurant scene is as diverse as its landscape. Warung Pondok offers authentic Indonesian dishes with a stunning view, while Penida Espresso is the place for a morning coffee or smoothie. For oceanfront dining, Amok Sunset serves international and local cuisine paired with a scenic sunset. Each restaurant on the island provides a unique dining experience that complements the day’s adventures.

Best Restaurants in Nusa Penida

  •  Cactus Beach Club
  • Penida Colada
  •  Sibartia restaurant
  •  Amok Sunset

Whether you’re snorkeling, hiking, or simply enjoying a meal by the beach, Nusa Penida’s unique attractions and natural beauty promise an unforgettable adventure.
