Most destinations are solo female travel-friendly, but Iceland is the best destination for a first-time solo female traveler. I spent about 10 days there, and it is still one of the best trips I’ve ever had. I wish all solo female travelers could relax in a foreign country with little to no harassment, breathtaking views, and delicious food. Here are a few things that led me to this conclusion, and hopefully, I’ll convince you of the same.

Iceland is the Safest Country in the World

Safety is one of the first things I consider when choosing my next destination, and it’s hard to beat the safest country in the world. In 2021, two people out of the entire nation were killed.

When I walked down the street in Reykjavik, I felt at peace. There was no one catcalling me or making me uncomfortable. Day or night, I felt at ease.

Iceland has Great Infrastructure

Iceland has a well-developed tourism infrastructure. Their public transportation is clearly organized and easily accessible. The airport has public buses that go to multiple cities and neighborhoods, so getting to your hotel is a breeze. There are plenty of accommodation options ranging from hostels to luxury hotels. Tour companies are easy to find online and seem well-regulated.

These things make it convenient for solo travelers to get around with little hassle. Although public transportation is pretty limited to Reykjavik and other main cities, roads are well-maintained if you decide to rent a car.

Group Tours are Solo-Friendly

As a solo traveler, I’ve had a few tours where I was the only solo traveler, which was a little backward. But in Iceland, I was surrounded by lots of solo travelers. Unless you rent a car, you’ll most likely end up on a group tour, and finding other solo traveling friends is easy.

Dining as a Solo Traveler in Iceland

Some countries make solo-dining hard but not Iceland. There are many solo-friendly restaurants, and you’ll have no problem finding a seat at the bar or your booth. Set your reservations early as some Michellin-starred restaurants require reservations more than a month beforehand. Some of my favorite solo-friendly restaurants are:

Dill

Cafe Loki

Icelandic Culture = Great Solo Female Travel in Iceland

Icelandic society is generally open-minded and welcoming to travelers, including solo female travelers. Icelanders are known for their friendliness and hospitality, making solo travelers feel more at ease and comfortable exploring the country alone.

Overall, Iceland is the best solo female travel destination in the world. Whether you’re a new solo female traveler or a well-experienced travel expert, Iceland should be on your bucket list!
