In Islam, travelers can recite several duas or prayers for protection, guidance, and a safe journey. Here are a few dua for traveling.

Dua for Travelling: Before Leaving Home

1. Dua Before Traveling: رَضِيْتُ بِاللّٰهِ رَبًّا وَّبِالْاِسْلَامِ دِيْنًا وَّبِمُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَبِيًّا “Radheetu billaahi Rabban, wa bil-Islaami deenan, wa bi-Muhammadin sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallama Nabiyyan.” Translation: “I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad (peace be upon him) as my Prophet.”
2. Dua Upon Boarding Transportation: بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الَّذِيْ سَخَّرَ لَنَا هٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِيْنَ وَاِنَّا اِلٰى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُوْنَ “Bismillahil-ladhee sakh-khara lana hadha wa maa kunna lahu muqrineen, wa inna ilaa Rabbina lamunqaliboon.” Translation: “In the name of Allah, who has provided us with this, and we were not ourselves capable of that, and indeed, to our Lord we will return.”
3. Dua for a Safe Journey: سُبْحَانَ الَّذِيْ سَخَّرَ لَنَا هٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِيْنَ وَاِنَّا اِلٰى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُوْنَ “Subhaanalladhee sakhkhara lanaa haadha wa maa kunna lahu muqrineen, wa inna ilaa Rabbina lamunqaliboon.” Translation: “Glory be to Allah, who has made this subservient to us, and we ourselves were not capable of that, and to our Lord we will return.”

Dua for Travelling in a Plane

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ “Subhanalladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqalibun.”

Translation: “Glory be to the One Who has placed this (transport) at our service and we would not have been capable of that, and to our Lord is our final destiny.”

Make this dua to thank Allah for enabling us to travel safely. It also acknowledges that our ultimate return is to Allah.

2. Dua for Returning Home from Travel (Du’a for Safe Return): اللهم إنا نسألك في سفرنا هذا البر والتقوى، ومن العمل ما ترضى، اللهم هون علينا سفرنا هذا واطو عنا بعده، اللهم أنت الصاحب في السفر والخليفة في الأهل، اللهم إني أعوذ بك من وعثاء السفر وكآبة المنظر وسوء المنقلب في المال والأهل “Allahumma inna nas’aluka fi safarina hadha al-birra wa al-taqwa, wa min al-amali ma tarda, Allahumma hawwin alayna safarana hadha wa twi anna bu’dahu, Allahumma anta al-sahib fi al-safar wa al-khalifah fi al-ahli, Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min wa’tha’ al-safar wa ka’abat al-manzar wa suu’ al-munqalabi fi al-mal wa al-ahli. “Translation: “O Allah, we ask You for righteousness, piety, and good deeds during our journey. O Allah, make easy for us our journey and shorten its distance. O Allah, You are the companion on the journey and the guardian of the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the difficulties of travel, unpleasant sights, and changes in fortune in wealth and family.”

Dua for Travelling : Umrah

During Umrah, there are several supplications (duas) that pilgrims commonly recite at different stages of the pilgrimage. Here are some of the most frequently recited duas during Umrah:

1. Dua upon entering the Masjid al-Haram (the Grand Mosque in Mecca): بِسْمِ اللهِ وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ، اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ “Bismillahi wa as-Salatu wa as-Salamu ‘ala Rasulillah. Allahumma iftah li abwaba rahmatik.” Translation: “In the name of Allah, and prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, open the doors of Your mercy for me.”
2. Dua upon sighting the Kaaba for the first time: اللهُ أَكْبَرُ “Allahu Akbar.” Translation: “Allah is the Greatest.”
3. Dua when touching or kissing the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad): بِسْمِ اللهِ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ “Bismillahi Allahu Akbar.” Translation: “In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest.”
4. Dua when starting Tawaf (circumambulation) around the Kaaba: اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ “Allahumma Rabbana atina fi dunya hasanatan wa fil akhirati hasanatan waqina ‘adhaban-nar.” Translation: “O Allah, our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
5. Dua between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone (Rukn Yamani): رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ “Rabbana atina fi dunya hasanatan wa fil akhirati hasanatan waqina ‘adhaban-nar.” Translation: “Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
6. Dua upon completion of Tawaf: رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ “Rabbana atina fi dunya hasanatan wa fil akhirati hasanatan waqina ‘adhaban-nar.” Translation: “Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
7. Dua upon reaching Maqam Ibrahim (the Station of Ibrahim): وَاتَّخِذُوا مِنْ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّى “Wattakhidhu min maqami Ibrahim musalla.” Translation: “And take, [O believers], from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer.”

These are just a few examples of the duas commonly recited during Umrah. Print them out so that you can access them while completing your Umrah.

Dua for Traveling: Hajj

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لاَ شَرِيْكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ لاَ شَرِيْكَ لَكَ “Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik, Labbaik la sharika laka Labbaik, Innal-hamda wan-ni’mata laka wal-mulk, la sharika lak.”

Translation: “Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.”

This dua is recited by pilgrims throughout the Hajj journey, expressing their readiness and eagerness to respond to the call of Allah and perform the pilgrimage. It reflects their submission, devotion, and acknowledgment of Allah’s greatness and sovereignty.

Dua for Travelling: Wealth

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِينَ “Rabbi-ghfir warham wa anta khayru rahimeen.”

Translation: “My Lord, forgive and have mercy, for You are the best of the merciful.”

This dua is often recited to seek Allah’s forgiveness, mercy, and blessings, including those related to wealth and sustenance. By seeking Allah’s forgiveness and mercy, believers hope to attain prosperity, success, and abundance in their wealth and provision.
