I have a secret. When someone says they didn’t enjoy Dubai, I always assume that they’re a little boring. Dubai may not have all of the outdoor and nature activities that you’re used to, but there’s so much to do in this magical city. From futuristic skyscrapers, amusement parks, and desert campfires, theres not much you can’t find in Dubai. I’ve visited twice, and yes the shopping is great, but there’s so much more. Here’s a few fun things to do in Dubai.

Stepping Back in Time: Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood

My journey began in the heart of Old Dubai, at the Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood (also known as Bastakiya). This beautifully preserved area transported me to a bygone era, with its windtower architecture, narrow lanes, and traditional courtyards. I wandered through the maze-like streets, peeking into art galleries, sipping Arabic coffee in a traditional cafe, and soaking in the authentic atmosphere. It’s a fantastic contrast to the modern skyline, offering a glimpse into Dubai’s rich heritage.

Dubai Miracle Garden

You’ve most likely seen the Dubai Miracle Garden on Instagram. It’s a very magical destination, especially if you love flowers. Millions of flowers are arranged in stunning displays, from heart-shaped tunnels to life-sized floral houses. It’s a photographer’s dream and a perfect place to escape the city’s hustle and bustle. In hindsight, I should have dressed more modestly than what I wore. If you’re solo, you can pay for a personal photographer near the entrance. They also edit your photos. Overall, I think my photos came out well, although a bit too bright.

Museum of the Future

This architectural marvel is a must-see! The Museum of the Future is a glimpse into what the world might look like decades from now. Its immersive exhibits explore the potential of technology and innovation in areas like space travel, sustainability, and well-being. The building itself is a work of art, with its seamless, torus-shaped design and Arabic calligraphy.

Go Shopping

No trip to Dubai is complete without a visit to the Souk. Shopping in Dubai is an experience like no other, with everything from luxurious gold jewelry in the famous Gold Souk to stylish, high-end fashion in world-class malls and traditional markets. If you love scents, you’ll be in heaven—Dubai is known for its rich Arabian perfumes, oud, and bakhoor, perfect for both body and home fragrance. And of course, you can’t leave without indulging in the region’s famous dates, available in gourmet varieties stuffed with nuts, coated in chocolate, or infused with exotic flavors. Whether you’re after glittering gold, elegant clothing, captivating scents, or delicious treats, Dubai has something special for every shopper!

Day Trip to Abu Dhabi

A short drive from Dubai, Abu Dhabi offers a different perspective on the UAE. My highlight was the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, also known as the Mosque of Light. Its stunning white marble architecture, intricate floral designs, and massive chandeliers are truly breathtaking. This mosque is a masterpiece of modern Islamic architecture, and a must see.

Explore Dubai’s Beautiful Cafes

Dubai has a thriving cafe culture, and many cafes are as visually stunning as they are delicious. One spot I adored was the Forever Rose Cafe, a monochrome wonderland that feels like stepping into a fairytale. But don’t stop there! Explore the city and you’ll find countless other cafes with unique themes and Instagram-worthy interiors.

Flavors of Asia: Al Rigga the Night Market

For a taste of authentic Asian street food, head to one of Dubai’s night markets. The atmosphere is vibrant, the food is delicious, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. From steaming bowls of noodles to crispy spring rolls, you’ll find a culinary adventure waiting for you.

Retail Therapy: The Dubai Mall

The Dubai Mall is more than just a shopping centre; it’s an entertainment destination. Home to hundreds of stores, an ice rink, an aquarium, and the Dubai Fountain, it’s easy to spend an entire day exploring its many attractions.

Underwater Adventures: Deep Dive Dubai

For a truly unique experience, I tried scuba diving at Deep Dive Dubai, home to the world’s deepest swimming pool. Diving into the depths of this submerged city was an unforgettable adventure, and a testament to Dubai’s innovative spirit.

Visit the Mosque of Light: Designed by Female Emirati Architect

Dubai is full of architectural wonders. My personal favorite it the Mosque of Light, also known as Mosque of the Late Mohamed Abdulkhaliq Gargash. This beautiful masjid was designed by Sumaya Dabbagh, one of the first female architects to design a mosque in Dubai. Its ethereal lighting and intricate geometric patterns create an ambiance of divine serenity, making it a must-visit for architecture and culture enthusiasts.
